Liang Zhang (SM’07) received the B. S. degree from University of Electronic Science and Technology in 1982, the M. S. degree from Shanghai Jiaotong University in 1986, and the Dr.-Ing. (Ph. D.) Degree in electrical engineering from the Leibniz University of Hannover in 2000.
He was a Teaching Assistant from 1987 to 1988 and a Lecturer from 1989 to 1992 with the Department of Electrical Engineering, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shanghai, China. From 1992 to 2000, he was a research assistant with the Institut für Informationsverarbeitung, Leibniz University of Hannover, Germany. From 2000 to 2013, he was a team leader and a Senior Research Scientist at Communications Research Centre Canada, Ottawa. Currently, he is a Research Engineer at Magna Electronics, Brampton. His research interests include image and video coding, image and video processing, stereo image processing and computer vision.
Dr. Zhang is a Senior Member of IEEE BTS Societies. He was a recipient of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholarship. He was chair and organizer of the Special Session on “3D TV: Primed for Success?” at the IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo, Toronto, Canada, 2006 and the IEEE Transaction on Broadcasting Special Issue on 3D-TV Horizon: Contents, Systems, and Visual Perception in 2011. He received the IEEE Scott Helt Memorial Award in 2011 and 2012. From 2010 to 2013, he was an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology. Currently, he serves as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting and the editorial board member of the Journal of Real-Time Imaging.
