Python Bootcamp

This workshop focuses on the basics of coding in the language of Python. The workshop will allow participants to familiarize themselves with the general functions and syntax associated with this programming language. Participants will work through some of the example codes in order to understand basic coding.

Prerequisites: None. This workshop is designed for beginners.

BYOD (Bring your own device)

Date: Saturday April 4th, 2020

Time: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cost: $50

Location: Will be offered online. More details will be sent to participants shortly.

Language: English only (instructor can answer questions in French if needed)

What is included:

Events for girls

Girl Guide Engineering Day, 2020

Sparks, Brownies, Guides and Pathfinders

Girl Guides in the Ottawa region will have the opportunity to participate in a fun, free, educational day of STEM activities with the University of Ottawa on Saturday, May 2nd, 2020.

To register, you must have a group of 20 to 30 girls. Then, please email us at adventures@uOttawa.ca with the following information:

  • your name (as the organizer)
  • the type of group (Sparks/Brownies/Guides)
  • the name(s) of the group you are registering
  • the number of girls you are registering

We will respond with further instructions on how to register.


Go Code Girl, 2020

Grade 7 to 12

Go Code Girl is an exciting opportunity for girls in grade 7 to 12 to learn about the world of programming. This fun-filled day of coding introduces the girls to computer science, all while bringing their creations to life and meeting mentors in the field!

MakerEd Night for Teachers

The Faculty of Engineering's Outreach team is organizing an evening dedicated to connecting teachers to resources for the introduction of technology in their classrooms. This event will be bilingual.

Schedule:

5 p.m.: Dinner served and presentation on Engineering Outreach programs offered for schools and teachers.

6:15 p.m. Workshop 1:

  • For Grade K to 5 teachers: Beebot and ozobot activities based on the science curriculum
  • For Grade 6 to 11 teachers: Microbit activities for the science class

7:30 p.m. Workshop 2:

  • For Grade K to 5 teachers: Robots and Creative Arts
  • For Grade 6 to 11 teachers: Robots and Autonomous Cars

Date: Wednesday, May 6, 2020, 5:00 to 8:30 p.m.

MakerEd Camp for Teachers: Raspberry Pi Bootcamp

Event cancelled: More information will be sent to participants shortly.

Learn how to set up the Raspberry Pi, blink an LED, and using other physical components to create some introductory activities. Then in the afternoon, take that learning to create some activities to be used in the classroom. Come get support from local Raspberry Pi Foundation trained experts to kick start making in your classroom and school.
