Dr. Ioan Nistor, Professor of Hydraulic and Coastal Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering and Assistant Vice-Provost of Graduate and Postdoctoral studies at the University of Ottawa, has been awarded a fellowship from The Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC).
Dr. Nistor receives this award for his excellence in his field as well as for his services to the profession and society.
He is very involved in the practice of hydrotechnical engineering in Canada and elsewhere in the world. He is an expert in the design of infrastructure that is subjected to extreme coastal hazards such as hurricanes and tsunamis. As head of the design team for the Kalpasar Project in India, he worked on the world’s largest tidal dam. Additionally, as a member of the ASCE7 Tsunami Committee, he has participated in the development of the world’s first design standard for tsunami-resistant buildings.
