The Faculty of Engineering is happy to announce that it has entered the second phase of the Return to Research Plan.

Earlier this month, the Faculty Executive and the Office of the Vice-President, Research, have approved a detailed and well thought out plan which allows for professors, researchers, postdoctoral, doctorate and masters students, as well as research staff, to return to research labs and offices while respecting the 67% capacity at all times.

All research students and staff will need authorization from their Department Chair or School Director to return and must respect the established schedule. Please note that any research student and staff who have received authorization to return must complete the checklist and send it by email to prior to coming back to the office.

Guiding principles

The guiding principles used in the Return to Research Plan are the following:

  • Safety is the first consideration to determine the timing, rate and scale of remobilization efforts.
  • Those that can conduct their research activities remotely will continue to do so.
  • Returning staff, faculty and students must practice and adhere to the uOttawa and government hygiene and safety precautions and physical distancing directives in place.
  • The goal is to achieve no greater than 67% building occupancy (with respect to research activities only) at any given time. Phase 3 (90%) will be implemented using the same approach.

Complete the checklist

The Faculty is happy to resume its research activities and is, as always, open to collaborating with external partners.

For any questions, please contact the Research Office.
